The Focus of a Civil War GBS

The missions of the Civil War GBS (Peace at all Costs, Defeat of the South, Southern Victory, Re-election) suggest a focus on control and management in this case, management of national affairs. The basic unit of activity in the Civil War GBS will be points of decision: at certain times, the student will be asked to decide, for instance, whether to adopt a certain military strategy, to approve a budget, or to grant a favor, etc. At each decision point, the student can either (a) develop a plan; (b) choose from alternative plans; (c) gather more information; or (d) defer making a decision.
